NLC Adds Two Kajiado Parcels to Nairobi-Naivasha SGR Acquisition List
The latest development forms part of a supplementary land acquisition process being undertaken on behalf of Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) to secure land required for the railway project.
According to a Gazette Notice dated July 30, 2026, the two parcels are located in Ntarshart, Kajiado County. They have now been included in the schedule of land earmarked for compulsory acquisition.

At the same time, the NLC announced the removal of Kajiado/Ntarshart/1651 from the acquisition schedule. The parcel had previously been listed for acquisition and measures approximately 10.34 hectares.
NLC Opens Compensation Process
The Commission has invited landowners, occupants and any other people with an interest or claim in the affected properties to participate in an inquiry into the proposed compulsory acquisition.
The inquiry is expected to examine ownership claims, compensation matters and other issues raised by affected parties.
These include copies of national identification cards, KRA PIN certificates, land ownership documents and bank account details.
The NLC has also made plans showing the affected parcels available for inspection.
A further notice will be published in the Kenya Gazette to provide details of the inquiry in accordance with the Land Act, 2012.
The process is expected to give affected landowners an opportunity to present their claims before the Commission makes decisions relating to compensation and acquisition.
SGR Project Undergoes Further Land Changes
The addition of the two Kajiado parcels is the latest adjustment to the land acquisition process for the Nairobi-Naivasha SGR Phase 2A project.
The supplementary acquisition process is intended to address land requirements that may have changed as the project progresses.
The Nairobi-Naivasha railway corridor is part of Kenya’s wider railway infrastructure network and is expected to support the movement of passengers and goods between Nairobi and areas along the corridor.
Potential Impact on Transport
Supporters of expanded rail infrastructure have argued that increased use of rail transport could help reduce pressure on busy roads by shifting some passenger and freight traffic from road to rail.

The move could also contribute to efforts to reduce congestion and road crashes associated with heavy traffic.
However, the immediate focus for affected landowners remains the compulsory acquisition process and the determination of compensation.
The NLC is expected to issue further information on the inquiry once the relevant notice is published.

The latest Gazette notice therefore marks another step in the ongoing process to secure the land required for the Nairobi-Naivasha SGR Phase 2A project, while placing renewed focus on compensation and the rights of affected property owners.
