“Step Down, Korir!” – Senator Khalwale Demands PS Resignation Amid SGR Land Scandal
Khalwale accused the State Department for Lands PS of playing a central role in a major Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) land compensation scandal.
“It is only today that it has become public that Professor Lumumba has sued PS Nixon Korir,” Khalwale revealed emotionally.
He alleged that Korir embezzled funds meant to compensate 184 families whose land was acquired during the SGR project.
“Parliament Must Wake Up!” – Khalwale Slams Lawmakers
Khalwale didn’t hold back. He urged Parliament to stop sleeping on the job.
“Lumumba should not be doing our work. We should have removed Nixon Korir from office already,” he declared.
Khalwale Explodes in Senate: ‘Korir Must Go Over SGR Scandal!’
He insisted that Korir’s presence in office is a barrier to any fair investigation.
“How do we investigate the PS when he controls all the data the courts will need to nail him?” Khalwale asked.
“For this, Nixon Korir should step down as PS and await the outcome of the investigation.”
Oketch Counters: “Bring a Motion”
But not everyone agreed with Khalwale’s approach.
Migori Senator Eddy Oketch responded swiftly. While he acknowledged the seriousness of the claims, he urged due parliamentary process.
“He has used the word demand, which I respect, because he is the whip,” Oketch said.
However, he added:
“The whip should be directed to give a substantive motion. This is a serious issue.”
Oketch reminded the House that allegations of embezzlement must follow procedure to ensure accountability.
Pattern of Accountability? Orwoba Also Calls Out Incompetence
Interestingly, Khalwale’s demand comes just weeks after Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba also called for a high-profile resignation.
On April 2, she asked President Ruto to fire Labour CS Alfred Mutua over rampant job scams abroad.
“This person is incompetent. His interests have not been seen. He is not there for the people of Kenya,” she stated.
“Let him go home,” she concluded, her voice firm with frustration.
Is the Government Listening?
With growing public outrage over land scandals and job scams, many are asking: Are these calls a turning point? Or just more ignored alarms?
