Moses Wetang’ula Orders MP Salasya to Surrender Social Media Logs Over Livestreaming Parliament Session
Nairobi – A heated moment erupted in Parliament after Speaker Moses Wetang’ula ordered Mumias East MP Peter Salasya to surrender his phone logs. This came after reports emerged that Salasya had livestreamed parliamentary proceedings without authorization.
Salasya, a vocal and energetic legislator, was seen sitting in a corner recording as MPs debated the High Court ruling that recognized Azimio as the official majority party. The incident quickly escalated, prompting Speaker Wetang’ula to take firm action.
Salasya’s Livestream Sparks Controversy
In a video shared on social media, Salasya described the parliamentary atmosphere as tense. He openly declared his intent to challenge Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah’s position.
“Things are getting hotter here, and we are not joking. We want to show Ichung’wah that he is nobody. I have sat in the corner to project my voice. Here, the Speaker will not see me. Ichung’wah must go. He has troubled us a lot here,” Salasya stated in his video.
Shortly after, he was reported to the Speaker for his actions. However, he initially denied the allegations, claiming he was simply following the proceedings.

Wetang’ula Confronts Salasya
Speaker Wetang’ula did not mince words when addressing the matter. He firmly challenged Salasya, emphasizing that Parliament had the means to retrieve phone logs and confirm the truth.
“It is very easy for Parliament to take logs of your phone and check what you were doing. Dishonesty is not a virtue. I believe you were listening and following proceedings because we are discussing very serious issues. Everybody has been focused, including your seniors and peers. So, were you livestreaming proceedings and making comments that are unpalatable along the way?” Wetang’ula questioned.
The Speaker expressed his displeasure, noting that Salasya had failed to switch off his phone despite being warned. He then issued a stern directive for the clerk of the National Assembly to retrieve the MP’s phone logs for verification.
Parliament Takes Action
In a final ruling, Wetang’ula stated, “I will instruct the clerk to get the logs on your phone, and if I find that what is alleged is correct, then I will invite a member to file a complaint for appropriate action. You can also be named.”
The directive now places Salasya in the spotlight, as he could face disciplinary action if found guilty. His fate now lies in the hands of parliamentary authorities, as they review the retrieved logs to determine the next course of action.
