Kenya Backs DCI Boss Mohamed Amin for Powerful INTERPOL Seat in Global Security Shake-Up

Kenya has made a bold move on the international stage by nominating Mohamed Amin, the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), as its candidate for the INTERPOL Executive Committee. Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen made the announcement on Friday, June 14, during the 11th RECSA Council meeting in Nairobi.

The elections will be held during the 93rd INTERPOL General Assembly in Marrakech, Morocco, between November 24 and 27.

“Kenya’s win will provide an opportunity to champion Africa’s perspectives and priorities at the highest level of global policing,” Murkomen declared during the regional meeting.

Why Amin’s Nomination Matters

The INTERPOL Executive Committee plays a vital role in shaping international security decisions. It supervises INTERPOL operations, sets critical agendas, and ensures regional interests are represented.

Amin’s nomination signals Kenya’s commitment to shaping global policing while highlighting Africa’s growing voice in fighting transnational crime.

“This is not just a national milestone. It’s a continental opportunity to shape global policing policy,” Murkomen added passionately.

Amin’s Deep Track Record

With over 30 years in law enforcement, Mohamed Amin is no stranger to high-stakes operations. He has led major criminal investigations, tackled cross-border terrorism, and even testified at the International Criminal Court (ICC).

He holds a Master’s in Criminology and has received prestigious honours—EBS, MBS, and OGW—for his service.

Currently, as DCI Director, Amin also manages INTERPOL’s Eastern Africa bureau, where he has championed reforms focused on ethics, intelligence sharing, and modernisation of policing systems.

A Step Forward for Africa

If elected, Amin will represent African countries in INTERPOL’s leadership structure. His role will include advocating for African security concerns like terrorism, corruption, wildlife trafficking, and human trafficking.

He will also promote capacity-building, regional cooperation, and community-based policing across the continent.

“Amin’s leadership is crucial. He will push Africa’s crime-fighting agenda where it matters most,” said a senior RECSA delegate.

Final Word

Kenya’s nomination of Mohamed Amin signals a continental shift in security leadership. It’s a call to African nations to rally behind a leader who understands both grassroots security needs and global crime-fighting dynamics.
