Several journalists and civilians sustained injuries after rowdy youths clashed along Mombasa Road on Friday, August 22.
Murkomen Speaks Out
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen condemned the violence while addressing the Julwa la Usalama forum in Kirinyaga on Saturday.
“Those events will be investigated, and anybody who is found culpable, regardless of their political standing, will be held accountable. Anybody who organised for people to be stoned, including journalists who were hurt, we will take very stern action,” Murkomen stated.
Chaos as Gachagua Convoy Attacked by Stone-Throwing Youths on Mombasa Road
Murkomen accused Gachagua’s party of failing to notify the police of their planned procession.
“When I said they need to notify the police, I heard one of their leaders, a former senator, saying that they have no obligation to notify the police and that they do not need a police officer to hold a meeting,” he noted.
“So, unfortunately, as a result of the lack of notification to the police, the police were not aware of what was going to happen. I wish they had heeded my advice,” Murkomen added.

Their actions disrupted Gachagua’s convoy, which was heading to Kamukunji Grounds for a planned rally.
Journalists from Royal Media Services, TV47, and Standard Group were among those injured in the melee.
Police Swift Response
Police officers eventually dispersed the youths who were armed with crude weapons. Their intervention allowed traffic to resume and cleared the way for Gachagua’s supporters.
