Former DP Gachagua Misses Hyped Kamukunji Rally Amid Claims of Impending Arrest
Thousands of supporters flocked Kamukunji Grounds on Thursday afternoon, expecting fiery remarks from former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. However, their hopes faded as the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader failed to address the much-hyped rally.
Claims of Arrest Plot
According to DCP deputy leader Cleophas Malala, Gachagua skipped the rally due to fears of arrest.
“We wanted to receive our party leader but they deployed police officers. They planned to arrest him but we said no,” Malala told the charged crowd.

Reports indicated that officers had been stationed to block Gachagua’s procession at the grounds. This fueled tension among supporters who had gathered from across Nairobi.
Arrival at JKIA
Earlier, Gachagua had landed at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport shortly before 2 pm. Supporters and allies received him with songs, chants, and placards.
A convoy of vehicles then escorted him from the airport. Excited crowds lined the roads, waving as the motorcade snaked through the city.
At every stop, anticipation grew. All eyes turned to Kamukunji Grounds, where the former DP was expected to deliver a major political statement.
Disappointment at Kamukunji
By mid-afternoon, the venue was packed with supporters. Many had waited for hours under the hot sun, hoping to hear their leader.
Yet, despite the hype, Gachagua never took the podium. His absence sparked murmurs and visible disappointment among the crowd.
Where Is Gachagua?
Questions quickly emerged about Gachagua’s whereabouts. Rumors spread fast, but his allies assured the supporters that he was safe.

Malala reassured them with bold words:
“We have brought the boss home. We will ensure he spends the night in his bedroom.”
A Growing Political Drama
Thursday’s no-show intensified speculation about Gachagua’s political battles and strained ties with state authorities. His supporters framed the rally as proof of intimidation.

As night fell, the unanswered questions lingered. Supporters left Kamukunji with chants, but without the voice they had hoped to hear.
