Gachagua to Grace Harambee Stars vs Madagascar Clash at Kasarani
Excitement is building ahead of the Harambee Stars’ crucial quarter-final clash against Madagascar at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani. Adding to the drama, Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua is set to make his first official appearance at the game on Friday, August 22.
Gachagua Confirms Attendance
In a statement, the party announced his plan shortly after he landed from the United States.
“DCP Party Leader Hon Rigathi Gachagua to Attend the Harambee Stars vs Madagascar Quarter Finals Match in Kasarani tomorrow,” the message read.
The confirmation came just hours after Gachagua missed his much-anticipated rally at Kamukunji grounds.
Kenyans React to the Announcement
The news sparked mixed reactions online. Some welcomed his decision to support the national team. Others, however, demanded more than just attendance.

“Let him give something to the team. We are not seeing his motivational support to Harambee Stars,” a concerned fan said.
Many argued that while President William Ruto has openly supported the Stars with financial and moral backing, Gachagua must also show his commitment beyond presence.
Return From the United States
Gachagua returned to the country on Thursday after spending 42 days in the US campaigning for his ‘Wantam’ agenda against President Ruto.
His arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport was dramatic. Throngs of supporters flooded the airport to welcome him, chanting slogans and waving party flags.
However, his planned rally at Kamukunji was derailed.
DCP Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala alleged police interference

“We wanted to receive our party leader, but they deployed police officers. They planned to apprehend him, but we said no,” Malala claimed.
Focus Shifts to Football
Now, with politics trailing behind him, all eyes will be on Gachagua as he steps into Kasarani. The match, kicking off at 5 p.m., marks a critical moment for Kenya. A victory would propel Harambee Stars into the semi-finals of CHAN 2024.
Meanwhile, fans are expected to pack the stadium in record numbers after the Confederation of African Football allowed 80% capacity, up from 60% during the Zambia game.

For Harambee Stars, the presence of high-profile leaders could boost morale. For Kenyans, the evening promises both politics and football drama under one roof.
