Murkomen Warns Gachagua’s Team Against Disrupting CHAN Match in Nairobi

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has issued a stern warning to politicians, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, against disrupting Kenya’s crucial CHAN quarter-final clash with Madagascar at Kasarani Stadium this Friday.

Firm Stand on Security

Speaking in Murang’a on Tuesday, August 19, Murkomen assured Kenyans that the National Police Service will reinforce security around Kasarani to prevent chaos.

“I want to thank the National Police Service for doing a fantastic job to secure Kasarani on Sunday to ensure that we abide by the CAF rule. We know that on Friday we will have a very big match, and I want to assure the citizens of Kenya that we will do the same in the upcoming game,” Murkomen stated.

He stressed that peace and order remain the government’s top priority during the tournament.

Zero Tolerance for Political Disruptions

Murkomen directly warned political actors not to interfere with the highly anticipated game.

“Any interference from political actors, both in the country and those who are coming in, will not be tolerated during this match. We want peace to prevail in our nation,” he cautioned.

His remarks appeared to target leaders allied to Gachagua, who have been accused of attempting to politicize national events.

Government Coordination With CAF

The CS further revealed that the government is working closely with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to ensure strict security protocols. He explained that every measure will be put in place to guarantee a smooth and peaceful game.

“We are waiting for the directions to the CAF, and once that is done, we will ask Kenyans again to ensure that they support Harambee Stars and ensure that they abide by the rules, and see how seamless it will be,” Murkomen said.

Call for Unity and Support

Beyond security, Murkomen rallied Kenyans to stand firmly behind the Harambee Stars. He emphasized that national pride should take precedence over political divisions during such a historic match.

“We want Kenyans to continue supporting the national team. This is about unity, not politics,” he urged.

A Nation’s Eyes on Kasarani

Friday’s quarter-final is more than just a football match. For many Kenyans, it symbolizes hope, unity, and national resilience. The government’s tough stand underscores the importance of ensuring the event is remembered for sporting excellence, not political drama.
