Governor Sakaja Steps In: Vows to Educate Albert Ojwang’s Son, Clear Widow’s College Fees and Fund Family’s Future
Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has pledged full support to the grieving family of Albert Ojwang, the young teacher and social media influencer who died under controversial circumstances while in police custody.
During a heartfelt meeting at City Hall on Wednesday, Sakaja met Ojwang’s wife, son, and father. He emotionally recounted their friendship and professional relationship.
“I have known Albert for a long time. If you go through his Facebook and Twitter, you will see—he was my personal influencer,” Sakaja said.
Paying School Fees and Burial Costs
The governor committed to educating Ojwang’s three-year-old son, George Miles, and settling all outstanding college fees for his widow, who is currently pursuing a course in Community Health.
“We will take care of the burial expenses, educate his son George Miles, and finish paying his widow’s college fees,” Sakaja assured.

“Upon completing her training as a health worker, we shall ensure she gets a job in the county,” he added.
Empowering Ojwang’s Parents
Sakaja also extended his kindness to Ojwang’s elderly parents. He promised to buy them land in Homa Bay and construct rental houses for them to generate a sustainable income.
This gesture was met with praise from Kenyans who had already started mobilizing support for the family online.
Financial Wisdom for a Brighter Future
Acknowledging the overwhelming donations from Kenyans, Sakaja revealed that instead of using the money solely for the burial, the family would invest the funds in a money market fund.

“We’ve decided to invest all contributions in a money market fund to secure the child’s future,” Sakaja explained.
This approach, he noted, would ensure long-term stability for George, rather than using up all the money in a single event.
Condemning the Killing, Demanding Justice
Sakaja did not hold back on the injustice surrounding Ojwang’s death.

“We cannot keep witnessing deaths that leave children fatherless,” he declared.
Ojwang’s killing on June 8 at Central Police Station has triggered national outrage. Protests continue to intensify, as Kenyans demand truth, justice, and accountability from the National Police Service.
