IG Kanja Reveals Explosive Details Behind Ojwang’s Arrest and Controversial X Posts
Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has revealed shocking new details about the social media activity that allegedly led to the arrest—and eventual death—of Albert Ojwang, the influencer who died in police custody.
While appearing before the Senate on Wednesday, June 11, Kanja confirmed that Ojwang operated the X (formerly Twitter) account named “Pixel Pioneer.” The account, boasting over 13,000 followers, had published multiple controversial posts accusing senior police officials of corruption and abuse of power.
Posts That Triggered the Storm
According to Kanja, one post accused Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lagat of creating a network within the DCI, OB desks, and traffic units to control revenue and intelligence.
“The account posted that DIG Lagat had strategically placed trusted officers in charge of DCI desks, OB desks, and traffic shifts,” Kanja stated.
Another post showed Lagat with senior Nairobi officer Joseph Chirchir, alleging they were under EACC investigation for buying a $2.6 million home in Dubai. The caption read, “Eliud Lagat: Mafia Police.”
Cybercrime Unit Swings into Action
Following the viral posts, DCI boss Mohamed Amin tasked the cybercrime unit to investigate. The unit reached out to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) for verification and user data.

“The CA confirmed on June 4 that the Pixel Pioneer account was active,” said Kanja.
“On June 5, EACC responded, stating DIG Lagat was not under investigation.”
Soon after, CA also traced another account, “Kevin Moishyleez,” linking it to Kevin Moinde and Albert Ojwang.
Arrests Before Tragedy Struck
Police arrested Moinde in Kisii on Thursday, June 5, and picked Ojwang in Homa Bay on Saturday, June 7. Just hours later, Ojwang was declared dead in police custody.

His autopsy report, released earlier this week, indicated the injuries were not self-inflicted, contradicting earlier police claims.
Senate Grills Top Security Bosses
At the Senate, Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen, IG Kanja, DCI boss Amin, and IPOA deputy chair Ann Wanjiku faced intense scrutiny.
“We demand transparency and accountability. This was a human life, not a username,” one senator declared.
The revelations continue to ignite public outrage, especially among Kenya’s youth, with activists demanding justice and reform in law enforcement accountability.
