Wetang’ula Directs Security Committee to Give Preliminary Report on Ojwang’s Death by Thursday

A political storm has erupted in Parliament following the controversial death of blogger and influencer Albert Ojwang, with Speaker Moses Wetang’ula now demanding swift answers.

During a heated National Assembly session on Tuesday, June 11, Wetang’ula directed the Committee on Administration and Internal Security, chaired by Gabriel Tongoyo, to table a preliminary report within 48 hours.

“The Committee on Administration and Internal Security must present a preliminary report by Thursday,” Wetang’ula stated firmly.

Autopsy Confirms Foul Play

Ojwang passed away on Sunday, June 8, in police custody under circumstances that have raised widespread concern.

The autopsy report confirmed that the injuries sustained were inflicted by a third party, casting doubt on the initial police account.

His death has ignited public anger, street protests, and online outrage, with many accusing law enforcement of brutality and cover-up.

MPs Demand Truth Amid Rising Public Pressure

Parliamentarians were visibly shaken and vocal. Nyando MP Jared Okello requested a formal statement from the committee regarding Ojwang’s tragic death.

“We must get a clear and honest explanation. The public deserves to know what happened,” Okello stressed.

His comments echoed the national outcry, as more young Kenyans continue to suffer under suspicious and unaccounted deaths in state custody.

Raila Odinga Adds Voice to National Condemnation

ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga didn’t hold back. He blasted the state over a worrying pattern of police-linked deaths, warning that Ojwang’s death would not be ignored.

“A speedy and credible closure to this latest incident of injustice in the hands of the police is not optional,” Raila declared.

He tied Ojwang’s case to a broader list of unsolved police-related deaths, warning that the government’s silence was breeding distrust and fear.

Clock Ticking as Public Demands Justice

With only two days to produce the report, Tongoyo’s committee now carries the burden of restoring public faith.

Already, citizens are demanding accountability, transparency, and justice—not just for Ojwang, but for many others who have allegedly suffered at the hands of rogue officers.

As Parliament tightens the noose and protestors tighten their fists, the question remains: Will justice finally prevail, or will another name vanish in the fog of impunity?
