CS Wandayi Warns Jubilee Vice-Chair Murathe Over Making 2027 Offers to Raila
Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi has issued a stern warning to Jubilee Vice-Chair David Murathe over his recent remarks about ODM leader Raila Odinga.
Speaking on Friday, August 8, Wandayi accused Murathe of attempting to lure Raila into ditching President William Ruto ahead of the 2027 General Election. He stressed that Raila had already made his choice clear.
“I want to tell Murathe to leave Baba Raila Odinga alone,” Wandayi declared. “Raila himself decided and widely announced that he would work with Ruto till the end.”
Murathe’s Offer to Raila
On Thursday, August 7, Murathe revealed that Jubilee would endorse Raila in 2027 — but only if he cut ties with Ruto.
After the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, Murathe insisted Raila still held a special position within the Azimio la Umoja–One Kenya Coalition.
“We still recognise Raila as the Azimio leader. We will agree on how to proceed as a coalition,” Murathe said.
He even hinted at the formation of a fresh alliance aimed at making Ruto a one-term president.

Wandayi’s Sharp Response
Wandayi dismissed Murathe’s proposition, saying Raila was committed to his partnership with Ruto.
“If they are after a presidential candidate for 2027, there are so many people who have put themselves forward,” he said. “They should leave Raila alone to handle his affairs.”
The Energy CS’s words come at a time when Raila’s silence on his political ambitions has fuelled speculation. His collaboration with Ruto has already caused divisions within ODM, with members split between supporting and opposing the president.
The Political Chess Game
Murathe described Raila as a “political genius” who has kept his next move hidden. However, his remarks appear to contradict Jubilee Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni’s earlier stance.
Kioni has previously stated that Jubilee is ready to back former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i for the presidency.
A Crowded 2027 Race
The 2027 race is shaping up to be fiercely competitive. Apart from President Ruto, notable figures eyeing the seat include Kalonzo Musyoka, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Matiang’i, Eugene Wamalwa, and Martha Karua.

With shifting alliances and open declarations, Kenya’s political stage is set for a turbulent lead-up to the polls. What remains unclear is whether Raila will stay loyal to Ruto — or surprise the nation once again.
