Boniface Mwangi Arrest Sparks Outrage Over Alleged DCI Brutality

Human rights activist Boniface Mwangi was arrested on Saturday afternoon in a move that has sent shockwaves across the country. The arrest occurred at his home in Lukenya, Mavoko Sub-County, Machakos County.

Mwangi was reportedly seized by individuals believed to be officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). Witnesses say the officers did not present a warrant or explain the charges clearly at the time of the arrest.

His wife, visibly shaken and alarmed by the incident, condemned the operation.

“The police have come to our home in Courage Base and are taking my husband, talking of terrorism and arson! They’ve taken his gadgets and said they are taking him to DCI headquarters. I can’t breathe,”
said Mwangi’s wife.

The arrest was carried out swiftly and forcefully. The officers allegedly confiscated several of Mwangi’s personal electronic devices. According to reports, he was then driven to the DCI headquarters along Kiambu Road, Nairobi.

Renowned lawyer James Kamau, who represents Mwangi, confirmed the events in an exclusive with Kenyans.co.ke.

“The DCI officers made an impromptu visit to Boniface’s home, ransacked the house and arrested him without a court order,”
Kamau stated.

The activist’s supporters have condemned the arrest, terming it unlawful and a violation of human rights. They also claim the charges — terrorism and arson — are vague and unfounded.

Furthermore, civil rights groups across East Africa are expressing solidarity with Mwangi. They accuse regional governments of suppressing activists through state-sanctioned violence and illegal detentions.

The activists also cite a growing pattern of human rights abuses, including enforced disappearance, torture, arbitrary detention, sexual abuse, and unlawful deportation. They are now demanding justice, accountability, and reparations.

“We are calling for formal apologies from the governments of Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda. Each victim deserves compensation of Ksh130 million,”
stated a representative of the activists.

As the news spreads, Kenyans online and offline continue to demand Mwangi’s immediate release. His arrest has become a powerful rallying point for justice and freedom of expression.
