On Thursday, June 12, hundreds of young Kenyans flooded Nairobi’s central business district. They chanted for justice and demanded the resignation of Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lagat. The protesters also called for an overhaul of police leadership.

Moreover, the demonstration threatened major disruptions. Key areas like City Hall, Jeevanjee Gardens, and Parliament Buildings saw heavy foot traffic. Also, protesters marched along Harambee Avenue, aiming to bypass Parliament’s security zone.

Tear Gas Fired Amid Growing Tensions

Police responded forcefully. They deployed tear gas canisters and used other tactics to disperse the crowd. However, the protesters refused to relent. Instead, they persevered, marching through Nairobi’s streets with purpose.
