UNITED OPPOSITION RAISES ALARM OVER PLOT TO SELL TOXIC SUGAR TO KENYANS
Speaking during a press conference on Thursday, Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka sent shockwaves across the country with serious allegations. He claimed that “25,000 metric tonnes of sugar, already declared unfit for human consumption, is en route to a sugar factory in Western Kenya for repackaging.”
He further revealed that the sugar had already docked at the Port of Mombasa. According to Kalonzo, the Kenya Kwanza government cleared the consignment despite knowing its status.
“This cargo has already been declared from its port of origin unfit for public consumption. Yet, the Ruto regime has quickly cleared it,” he said.
Kalonzo emotionally questioned the government’s morality and commitment to protecting its people.

“What kind of man is this? What kind of regime puts its reprehensible needs before the well-being of the public?” he asked.
The United Opposition has now demanded immediate action. Kalonzo insisted that the contaminated consignment must be traced, publicly condemned, and destroyed.
“Fellow Kenyans, this is a criminal regime. It not only uses violence against its people but now plans to poison them,” the statement read.
He did not stop there. The Wiper leader accused the current administration of undermining critical sectors like education by slashing funds and ignoring rights.
“This regime is actively defunding education. It is limiting the people’s future while endangering their health,” he added.
This fresh scare rekindles memories of past sugar scandals. In June 2024, Parliament’s Trade Committee tabled a damning report on 2023’s Thika sugar saga. The report revealed that contaminated sugar, meant to be destroyed or turned into ethanol, vanished and was later sold to Kenyans.
Several agencies, including KEBS, NEMA, and the Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA), were implicated in that scandal.
