UDA Fires Back at Gideon Moi Over ‘Ruto Double Talk’ Headline: “This Is Political Envy!”
A fierce political exchange erupted on Sunday after the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) issued a blistering response to The Standard’s headline, ‘Ruto Double Talk’. The article, which questioned President William Ruto’s global and domestic positions, sparked outrage within the ruling party.
“This Is Malicious and Hateful”—UDA Slams Gideon Moi
In a strongly worded letter, UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar accused KANU Chairman Gideon Moi of orchestrating a smear campaign. Omar claimed the article was not journalism but a politically charged attack.
“This letter, Gideon, is to acknowledge receipt of one of your habitually malicious and hateful letters to His Excellency the President,” Omar wrote. “Through your usual platform, The Sunday Standard or The Sunday Kabarak Chronicles,” he added.

The Standard article had criticized Ruto’s stance on the war in Sudan and police brutality in Kenya. It claimed Ruto condemned violence abroad while allegedly hosting Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and ignoring domestic civil rights concerns.
“Rooted in Envy”—UDA Defends Ruto’s Record
Omar didn’t hold back. He accused Moi of using media influence to settle political scores and revive his fading relevance.
“Your attacks are rooted in envy and political entitlement,” Omar stated. “You’ve taken KANU to failure and near ruin,” he added.

In defense of Ruto, Omar highlighted Kenya’s rising international ratings and recognition by global institutions like the IMF. He also pointed to Kenya’s role in mediating regional conflicts in Sudan, the DRC, and Haiti.
“Ruto’s leadership has earned global respect,” Omar said. “We are solving regional crises while strengthening our own democracy,” he added.
“KANU Will Not Join Ruto”—Moi’s Camp Stays Defiant
“KANU’s alliances are formed through organised party processes,” the party stated. “We will announce our next move in due course,” it added.
As political temperatures rise, the war of words between UDA and Moi signals deeper divisions ahead of 2027.
