A fierce political storm erupted on Saturday, September 27, after allies of President William Ruto lashed out at former President Uhuru Kenyatta. The backlash followed Uhuru’s sharp criticism of Ruto’s administration during the Jubilee Party’s National Delegates Conference.
“We Will Cut His Perks”—Cherargei Warns Uhuru Over Political Comeback
Leading the charge, Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei accused Uhuru of violating the Presidential Retirement Benefits Act. He claimed the former President was re-entering active politics, which could cost him his pension.

“We passed a law that gave Uhuru retirement benefits,” Cherargei said. “If he returns to politics, we will remove those perks,” he warned.
“Correct Us With Facts”—Kindiki Defends Ruto’s Healthcare Record
“Those correcting this government must correct us with facts,” Kindiki stated. “Linda Mama wasn’t scrapped. It was expanded,” he added.
He explained that the program now covers pregnant women, fathers, and youth under the Social Health Authority (SHA).

“SHA protects more people than Linda Mama ever did,” Kindiki emphasized.
“Ruto Has Delivered”—MPs Defend Government Achievements
“Uhuru’s policies hurt the economy. He shouldn’t lecture us,” one MP said. “Ruto is fixing what was broken,” another added.
They argued that Uhuru’s criticism was politically motivated and aimed at undermining Ruto’s progress.
“Security Is Being Misused”—Uhuru’s Claims Stir Tension
During his address, Uhuru accused Ruto’s government of using security agencies to intimidate citizens. He claimed the same infrastructure he built was now being weaponized.

“We invested in security to protect Kenyans,” Uhuru said. “Now it’s being used to instill fear,” he lamented.
His remarks shocked many, especially since he had remained politically neutral since leaving office.
As tensions rise, Kenyans brace for a possible showdown between the country’s past and present leadership.
