Terror in Mombasa: Police Nab Four Suspected ‘Panga Boys’ Gang Members After Chilling CCTV Robbery

Fear gripped Mombasa residents this week after a viral CCTV video showed gang members violently robbing pedestrians in Nyali. Days later, police arrested four suspected members of the notorious ‘Panga Boys’ gang in Mtwapa, recovering deadly weapons.

Intelligence-Led Operation Uncovers Gang Hideout

On Friday, the National Police Service (NPS) confirmed the arrests. Officers from Mtwapa Police Station raided a makeshift structure in the Labour–Mtomondoni area after receiving a public tip-off.

“The officers proceeded to a makeshift structure, believed to be a hideout for the notorious gang of muggers, where they successfully arrested four suspects,” the NPS stated.

During the raid, police recovered three pangas and a dagger. The suspects are now being held at Mtwapa Police Station, awaiting arraignment.

Viral CCTV Footage Sparks Public Outcry

The arrests followed a disturbing robbery incident caught on camera in Nyali. In the footage, three gang members approached pedestrians at night, snatched their belongings, and assaulted them with machetes.

“They forced victims to transfer all money in their accounts to the gang,” one report revealed.

The CCTV owner, who lives near the scene, said he heard a commotion outside. After checking the footage, he saw the gang harassing people before fleeing on a motorbike.

“I couldn’t believe what I saw. They were ruthless,” the homeowner said.

Police Vow to Intensify Crackdown

Following the arrests, Mombasa Police Commandant promised swift action. He assured residents that the gang would be dismantled.

“For the next two to three days, I will be camping in Nyali to ensure that these boys are taken down,” he declared. “We will not allow them to come back. That incident is isolated and subject to confirmation,” he added.

Police have since visited the robbery scene to gather more evidence. Investigations are ongoing to determine if the arrested suspects are linked to the Nyali attack.

Residents Demand Safety and Justice

Locals have expressed relief over the arrests but remain fearful. Many are calling for increased patrols and faster prosecution of gang members.

“We need protection. These gangs are terrorizing us,” said a Nyali resident.

As police tighten their grip, Mombasa residents hope this marks the beginning of the end for the ‘Panga Boys.’
