Goons Injure 10, Steal Millions as Police Watch Helplessly

A peaceful Sunday morning turned into a nightmare for business owners and workers in Mukuru kwa Reuben, Nairobi, after a violent gang stormed a private business, looting goods worth over Ksh 4.8 million and injuring at least 10 people.

The incident has shaken the community and raised fresh concerns over security in informal settlements.

Sudden Attack Catches Workers Off Guard

The gang struck without warning at around 8 a.m., just hours after the business had opened its doors.

“We came to work at 5 a.m. When it got to 8 a.m., strange people just stormed and started throwing stones at us,” one terrified worker recounted.

“They ransacked the whole place and looted goods.”

The employees were caught completely off-guard. Some tried to resist but were met with violence. Ten of them sustained injuries and were left helpless as the attackers vanished with valuables.

Livelihoods Shattered Overnight

Now, over 46 workers are jobless and desperate. The looted business was their only source of income.

“The goons came here, looted a lot of things. We tried to call the police. They came but didn’t do anything; they just watched,” said another worker, tears in his eyes.

“Now we are stranded. We don’t have money or jobs. Our children and families are depending on us.”

The owner of the business, still visibly shaken, blamed the government for failing to protect citizens.

“I am begging the government. We don’t have security in Mukuru kwa Ruben,” she pleaded.

“My goods were looted while police were just watching. I am so pained. I don’t have anywhere to start from.”

She also expressed fear for her life, saying she no longer feels safe in the area.

Residents Demand Action

The raid has sparked outrage among residents. Tension now grips the area, with many calling for urgent reforms at the local police station.

“We don’t feel safe anymore. Anyone can be attacked and the police will do nothing,” said a concerned resident.

The incident comes amid rising cases of goon-led invasions, especially in the wake of anti-government protests across the country.
