Police Constable Kimathi Arrested in Meru Over Controversial FBI Group
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested Police Constable Hiram Kimathi in a dramatic Friday swoop in Meru County.
Kimathi was picked up from his home in the Kambakia area of Makutano at around 1:00 PM in an intelligence-led operation that shook the law enforcement community.
The DCI believes the officer is among the masterminds of a controversial movement dubbed Fighting Brutality and Impunity (FBI). The arrest came just days after the detention of his alleged accomplices—Jackson Kuria Kimani, alias Cop Shakur, and ex-Kenya Defence Forces officer Patrick Osoi.
According to DCI insiders, the trio is being investigated for allegedly mobilizing police and military officers to rebel against state impunity and brutality.
“We have strong leads on the group’s operations,” said a senior DCI officer.
“This arrest is part of an ongoing crackdown on rogue officers,” he added.

In a now-viral social media video, he alleged political victimization and hinted at internal rot within the service.
“This transfer is not just routine. It’s punishment,” Kimathi declared emotionally.
“They’re using me to warn other officers who won’t bow to corruption,” he claimed.
He even posted a letter instructing him to report to the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) upon arrival in Todonyang. The bold move sparked online support but raised eyebrows in top security circles.
Since his arrest, his legal team has raised concerns over the state’s silence on his exact charges.
“They’ve detained him without formal charges,” his lead counsel stated.
“We demand transparency and immediate access to our client,” he emphasized.
Meanwhile, DCI sources confirmed that Kimathi would be processed and arraigned in court soon.

This arrest follows the recent capture of Cop Shakur, who was seized outside Kahawa Law Courts while showing support for Osoi. During the arrest, Shakur filmed the entire episode, further fueling public interest in the FBI group.
The trio’s detentions have triggered intense debate nationwide. Is it a crackdown on indiscipline or a silencing of whistleblowers? Only time will tell.
