Panic at State House: GSU Officer Killed in Bow and Arrow Attack, Police Launch Probe
Shock gripped the nation on Monday morning, October 13, after a lone attacker armed with a bow and arrow fatally struck a General Service Unit (GSU) officer at State House, Nairobi. The incident occurred at Gate D, triggering an emergency lockdown.
“Despite Being Challenged to Surrender…”
“A 56-year-old man, armed with a bow and arrows, rapidly approached police officers stationed in the area. Despite being challenged to surrender, the suspect advanced on Police Constable Ramadhan Mattanka and shot him in the left ribs with an arrow,” read the NPS statement.
The officer was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

“He Waited for the Right Moment”
Police revealed that Kithuka had been dismissed earlier but returned stealthily. He waited until two officers were distracted by a vehicle clearance before launching his attack.
“He hid behind a car and prepared himself before launching the surprise assault,” a senior officer confirmed.
Seconds after the attack, other GSU officers subdued and arrested the suspect, preventing further harm.
“We Condemn This Heinous Act”
The NPS praised the swift response of the officers and promised a full investigation.
“The National Police Service condemns this heinous act and commends the officers for their swift response, which prevented further harm. An investigation is ongoing to establish the motive behind the attack,” the statement added.
Police Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga confirmed that the suspect is being held at Kimani Police Station.
“How Did He Get That Close?”
The incident has sparked serious questions about security lapses at one of Kenya’s most protected locations. Many are asking how a civilian with primitive weapons breached the perimeter.

“This is a wake-up call. We must review our protocols,” said a retired security expert.
The fact that President William Ruto was inside the premises during the attack has intensified public concern.
“We Need Answers, Not Excuses”

“This must not be swept under the rug. We need answers, not excuses,” a Nairobi resident said.
