Outrage as LSK Demands Justice Over Mysterious Death of Simon Warui in Police Custody
Shock and grief have gripped the nation following the disturbing death of Simon Warui inside a police cell at Mombasa’s Central Police Station. The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has now stepped in, demanding answers and accountability.
“We Will Not Let This Be Buried,” LSK Vows
On Monday, LSK President Faith Odhiambo issued a powerful statement. She confirmed that the society had appointed an advocate to represent Warui’s family and monitor the investigation.
“We have appointed an Advocate to act on behalf of the family,” Odhiambo said. “We must uncover the full truth and hold those responsible to account,” she added.
Warui’s family reported him missing on Sunday morning. Hours later, he was found dead inside a police cell in Mombasa under unclear circumstances.

Civil Society Joins the Fight for Truth
LSK is working closely with civil society groups and the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR). Together, they are pushing for an independent, swift, and conclusive investigation.
“We will not allow this matter to be swept under the carpet,” Odhiambo declared.
She also praised the Mombasa branch of LSK for supporting Warui’s family and making progress in the pursuit of justice.
Pattern of Deaths in Custody Raises Alarm
Warui’s case is not isolated. In August, 33-year-old Raymond Nachibati died just hours after being arrested in Kakamega. His body was found inside a cell at Budonga Police Post.

In July, the country mourned Albert Ojwang, a teacher and blogger who died in custody after allegedly criticizing Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lagat. Although police claimed he hit his head against a wall, an autopsy revealed severe injuries that experts said were unlikely to be self-inflicted.
“We are tired of excuses. These deaths must stop,” said a human rights activist.
In June, 36-year-old Calvince Omondi Onditi died at Kipasi Police Post in Mbita. Police claimed suicide, but the family demanded a full investigation.
Public Demands Accountability and Reform
Kenyans are now demanding transparency, justice, and reform within police stations. Many believe the system is broken and must be fixed.
“We cannot keep losing lives in custody. Enough is enough,” said a concerned citizen.
As the investigation into Warui’s death unfolds, the nation watches closely. Will justice prevail, or will another life be forgotten?
