NTSA Issues Urgent Directive: Vehicle Owners Must Update Records and Tax Status

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has issued a crucial alert to all vehicle and motorcycle owners across the country. The message is clear—update your vehicle records and tax status immediately.

This latest directive, announced on Tuesday, July 29, aims to streamline NTSA records and enhance service delivery. Vehicle owners must act fast or risk non-compliance penalties.

New Update Tool Goes Live

NTSA Director General George Njao confirmed that the authority has activated a vehicle record update module on its portal.

“In its undertaking mandate, the authority has operationalised the duty update module/vehicle records update tool to provide necessary support for all motor vehicle/motorcycle owners, including financial institutions, Government agencies, Insurance companies, dealers, and companies, among others,” the notice read.

Vehicle owners are required to submit a duty record update request letter to the nearest NTSA office. The letter must include contact details of the motor vehicle owner. Once received, NTSA will stamp the letter as proof of submission.

Documents You Must Present

To complete the update, vehicle owners must submit:

  • A copy of their national ID
  • The original vehicle logbook
  • KRA entry documents
  • Duty payment receipt

The NTSA further explained:

“The Authority aims to undertake the verification process and update the duty/records update in the service portal within 7 working days. The application processing time starts when the requisite documentation is verified and received at the NTSA offices,” the authority stated.

Free Update, Strict Collection Requirements

Good news for motorists—this update process is free. Once the documents are processed, owners will receive a notification to collect them within a week.

Collection is only available Monday to Friday during working hours. Individuals must bring:

  • The stamped request letter
  • Their original ID

Organizations must provide:

  • An authorization letter from the company

What Happens After Record Update?

Once you receive the updated records, you must apply for a duplicate logbook via your eCitizen account. The fee is Ksh 2,550. NTSA confirms the new logbook will be generated within three working days.

Lastly, NTSA has warned the public:

“If contacted by an unauthorised person(s) or through an unofficial channel advising that any NTSA service application can be fast-tracked or influenced in any way, please report the matter to the nearest NTSA office or the EACC for further action,” NTSA stated.
