KeNHA Announces Fresh Traffic Disruption on Mombasa Road Starting June 20
Motorists using Mombasa Road should brace for yet another traffic snarl-up. The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a temporary traffic disruption beginning Friday, June 20, 2025, that will affect the Nairobi-bound carriageway near Syokimau Railway Station.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify the public that a section of Mombasa Road (A8) near Syokimau Railway Station will experience traffic disruption,” the authority stated.
This disruption will happen in two phases:
- From Friday, June 20 at 10:00 pm to Saturday, June 21 at 6:00 am
- Again, from Saturday, June 21 at 10:00 pm to Sunday, June 22 at 6:00 am
“Cooperate with Police and Marshals” – KeNHA Urges Drivers
KeNHA explained that the temporary closure is necessary for installing fabricated beams on the ongoing Syokimau Railway Footbridge.

“We urge motorists to follow the proposed traffic management plan and cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site,” the statement added.
To minimize inconvenience, KeNHA has already provided alternative routes. These will ensure that drivers are not caught in delays or mistakenly drive into the construction zone.
Alternative Routes for Motorists
Drivers using the service lane will face the most significant disruption. They will be diverted through:
- Nairobi Inland Container Depot (ICD)
- Southern Bypass Terminus, just past Katani Road and the Mlolongo Overpass
This Isn’t the First – More Closures Happened Last Week
This is the second closure in a week. Previously, KeNHA shut down parts of Mombasa Road for a similar reason.
“A section of Mombasa Road (A8) near Naivas JKIA will experience traffic disruption along the Mombasa-bound service lanes,” KeNHA had earlier announced.
That closure, which occurred from Saturday, June 14 at 9:00 pm to Sunday, June 15 at 10:00 am, also aimed to install bridge beams.
Safety First: Why This Disruption Matters
Though frustrating, the disruption is necessary. The footbridge beams being installed are vital. They enhance pedestrian safety and connectivity along one of Kenya’s busiest highways.
