Ndindi Nyoro Opens Kahuro ACC Offices Amid Boycott by Local Administrators

Tension marked the official opening of the Kahuro Assistant County Commissioner (ACC) offices in Kiharu Constituency after several local administrators failed to attend the ceremony presided over by area Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro.

The facility was officially opened on Monday, March 9, in an event attended by residents and community leaders in Murang’a County. However, the ceremony notably lacked the presence of government administrators who are expected to operate from the newly constructed offices.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the administrators who had been scheduled to attend the launch reportedly stayed away after receiving instructions from senior authorities directing them not to participate in the event.

Some administrators are said to have cited receiving what they described as “orders from above,” preventing them from attending the ceremony or formally accepting the offices.

Despite the absence of the administrators, Nyoro proceeded with the opening ceremony, stating that the facility was ready to begin serving residents in the area.

The event briefly turned tense when police officers reportedly attempted to interrupt the ceremony. Residents who had gathered for the launch confronted the officers, leading to a brief standoff before the officers eventually left the venue.

Witnesses said the situation calmed after community members insisted that the ceremony should proceed as planned.

Addressing residents during the event, Nyoro criticised what he described as attempts to undermine the project and disrupt the launch.

“This office is ready to serve the residents. There were issues here and there. I want to tell those people—they are seeing us quiet, but they should not forget who we are,” Nyoro told the crowd.

The legislator also challenged those he accused of orchestrating the disruptions to confront him directly rather than sending others.

“Those who had sent the officers, next time do not send them. Come and face me one on one,” he added.

The Kahuro ACC offices were constructed through funding from the National Government Constituencies Development Fund, commonly known as the National Government Constituencies Development Fund. The project was intended to enhance government service delivery by providing local administrative offices for the region.

Local residents welcomed the facility, saying it would bring government services closer to the community and improve coordination between administrators and citizens.

The boycott by local administrators is not the first such incident involving Nyoro’s public events.

In March 2025, several administrators and police officers in Murang’a reportedly failed to attend another ceremony presided over by the Kiharu MP. That event involved the handover of an administration block and new offices for local government officials in the Mjini area of the constituency.

At the time, Nyoro also criticised what he described as attempts to frustrate development projects initiated within his constituency.

Following the latest boycott, the MP insisted that such actions would not stop his efforts to implement projects for residents.

“I will continue respecting people, but let them not take my respect for cowardice,” Nyoro said.

He further stated that he preferred to focus on development rather than engaging in political confrontations.

“I will never engage in politics of hatred or insults. I will let my work speak for itself,” he added.

In recent months, Nyoro has occasionally appeared to distance himself from aspects of the agenda of the Kenya Kwanza Alliance, led by William Ruto, choosing instead to highlight development initiatives within his constituency.

Among the projects he has recently promoted is an education support programme aimed at easing the financial burden on families in Kiharu.

Under the initiative, primary education within the constituency has been made free through local support programmes, while secondary school students reportedly pay a reduced fee of KSh 500, with a free lunch programme also introduced for learners.

Political observers say the latest incident highlights growing tensions between local political leaders and sections of the national administrative structure, even as development projects continue to be rolled out at the constituency level.
