Musician Jua Cali, Citizen TV’s Mwanahamisi Hamadi Among Kenyans to Receive State Honours
The awards will celebrate people who have made exceptional efforts in shaping the nation through arts, education, philanthropy, public service, and culture.
Mwanahamisi Hamadi — A Voice for the Kenyan Woman
For over a decade, Mwanahamisi Hamadi has inspired millions through her celebrated TV segment Mwanamke Bomba on Citizen TV. The program highlights women who are breaking barriers in entrepreneurship, leadership, and community service.

Speaking with gratitude after receiving the news, she said:
“I am happy and thankful to God for this rare opportunity. This is not just my win but a victory for the entire Citizen TV crew, as we have always worked together towards the same vision.”
She revealed that Mwanamke Bomba was born out of Citizen TV’s mission to give ordinary people a voice.
“When we started Citizen TV, we wanted it to represent the local citizens. That is how the idea of a programme that gives ordinary women a platform to tell their stories came to life.”
Mwanahamisi, who has become a symbol of women’s empowerment, takes pride in showcasing transformation at the grassroots level.
“When a woman rises and uplifts others, it gives me honour and joy to see that transformation.”
Jua Cali — The Genge Icon Turned National Hero
Veteran musician Jua Cali, one of Kenya’s most respected music figures, is also among this year’s honorees. Known for his unique Genge sound and relatable lyrics, he has inspired generations of Kenyan artists.
For over two decades, Jua Cali has shaped Kenya’s urban music culture and remained a mentor to young talents across the country. His influence extends beyond music — it reflects resilience, creativity, and the power of local identity.

How the Recognition Works
Public nominations play a key role. The council vets the candidates, forwarding approved names to the President for final announcement during national celebrations.
This year’s honorees, including international figures, represent diverse sectors that reflect Kenya’s unity, growth, and creative spirit.

A Nation That Celebrates Its Own
The inclusion of Mwanahamisi Hamadi and Jua Cali sends a powerful message — Kenya honours those who use their gifts to uplift others. Their stories of dedication, passion, and service remind the nation that heroes are not born in battlefields alone, but also in studios, newsrooms, and community projects.
