Musalia Mudavadi Condemns Peter Salasya’s Attack at Nyayo Stadium: “Respect Must Be Given”
Nairobi – Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has condemned the brutal attack on Mumias East MP Peter Salasya at Nyayo Stadium. The incident occurred on Sunday, March 23, during Kenya’s World Cup qualifier match against Gabon, where the home team lost 2-1.
In a strong statement on his social media, Mudavadi decried the assault, calling it an act of political intolerance that threatens democracy.
“What happened to Peter Salasya at Nyayo Stadium today is unfortunate. Political intolerance undermines the very foundation of democracy, which relies on the ability to engage with differing views,” he stated
Calls for Unity and Respect
Mudavadi, who also serves as Foreign Affairs CS, urged Kenyans to embrace respect and dialogue, warning against growing divisions.
“We won’t always agree, and that’s okay. But respect, dialogue, and unity must remain non-negotiable. Respect must be given, but it must also be earned,” he added.
He further cautioned that if such attacks persist, the nation risks destroying everything it aims to build.
“A house divided cannot stand. Let’s choose reason over chaos and maturity over noise. Kenya’s future depends on it,” Mudavadi warned.

Why Was Salasya Attacked at Nyayo Stadium?
Eyewitnesses reported that Salasya was confronted and forcefully removed from the stadium by a group of rowdy individuals. Videos show him scrambling towards his vehicle while being hit with punches and kicks.
Some attackers shouted phrases like “Heshimu Raila” (Respect Raila) and “Respect the President.” This suggests the assault was politically motivated.
Political Tensions Rise
The attack has sparked heated debate among Kenyans, with many condemning the act. Salasya, known for his outspoken criticism of ODM leader Raila Odinga and government policies, has frequently clashed with both President William Ruto and Raila.
The chaotic atmosphere at the match, coupled with anti-government chants, further fueled speculation that the attack was premeditated.
Demand for Accountability
Leaders from various political factions have called for swift action against those responsible. Kenyans are now urging authorities to ensure that political differences do not lead to violence.
As investigations continue, the country watches closely, hoping for justice and a renewed commitment to political tolerance.
