Matiang’i Declares 2027 Presidential Bid: “I’m Ready to Lead Kenya”
In a stunning and emotional announcement, former Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has declared his bid for the 2027 presidency. Speaking to a roaring crowd at Gusii Stadium on Friday, May 2, Matiang’i finally ended months of speculation.
A Momentous Declaration
“I am ready to be President of Kenya,” Matiang’i told supporters, his voice steady and filled with conviction. The packed stadium erupted in cheers, with thousands waving flags and banners, showing unwavering support.
The declaration was the highlight of his homecoming tour. The tour began in Kijauri and passed through Nyamira, Keroka, and Keumbu before culminating in Kisii Town.
A Rally Like No Other
Initially, Matiang’i planned to address the public at Kisii Capital Roundabout. However, the overwhelming turnout forced organizers to shift the event to the much larger Gusii Stadium.
Stepping Down to Step Up
Matiang’i revealed he would resign from his World Bank role within three weeks to focus fully on his presidential bid.

“You have asked me to come and serve this country. I will now resign officially, with respect, and come back to Kenya to serve my country,” he promised, drawing loud applause.
Promising Integrity and Action
“Kenya has challenges, but I want to ask you not to lose hope in our country,” Matiang’i urged. “We are a nation built on resilience. Let’s join hands, and when the time comes, we will fix and make our country better.”
A National Movement Begins
Matiang’i encouraged his Gusii supporters—and Kenyans everywhere—to begin registering as voters immediately. He made it clear that his mission is bigger than Gusii.

“Aren’t you going to allow me to visit the whole nation?” Matiang’i asked, smiling broadly. The crowd’s thunderous “Yes!” left no doubt about their enthusiasm.
He promised to tour Rift Valley, Central, Eastern, Coast, Western, and Nyanza regions to gather national support.
