Matiang’i Breaks Silence on Chris Musando, Jacob Juma and River Yala Deaths

Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has spoken out emotionally and candidly on some of the most controversial deaths that haunted his tenure. He singled out the late IEBC ICT manager Chris Musando, slain businessman Jacob Juma, and the chilling River Yala deaths.

During a compelling Tuesday evening interview with Citizen TV, Matiang’i confirmed that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) had not closed Musando’s file at the time he left office.

“The incident was reported, and I know it the way you know it, that an official of IEBC was killed,” Matiang’i said.

He further revealed that despite several efforts to seek answers, he kept getting the same response:

“The investigations were going on. Every time the issue comes up, I keep saying, why don’t we have a public inquiry on this matter?”

He also referenced the late Jacob Juma’s case, stressing that it too remained unresolved.

“There were several cases, such as Jacob Juma, which were also under investigation,” Matiang’i noted.

“The DCI kept saying the file is still open. Even if you’re the President, there’s nothing you can do.”

River Yala Horror

On the horrifying discovery of over 30 decomposing bodies in River Yala, Matiang’i recounted how seriously the matter was taken. The deaths, which shocked the nation, led to urgent briefings and high-level orders.

“We asked IG Mutyambai what was happening at that time,” Matiang’i stated.

“We agreed that the gravity of the situation is such that the DCI himself should go to that place and find out what is happening.”

However, according to Matiang’i, progress was hindered due to one key issue:

“They told us they needed the kin of the victims to positively identify their relatives for faster investigations.”

Even as he left office, Matiang’i insisted that none of the River Yala case files had been concluded.

“When they came back, they were asked for an inquest. By the time we were leaving government, the file was opened. I didn’t leave with the file.”

Time for Truth and Closure

Matiang’i firmly believes that the only way to bring justice and closure is through a public inquest.

“The best way to deal with these past mysterious deaths is to conduct a public inquest,” he emphasized.

“People who were in the security sector at the time can provide information.”

As questions linger and justice remains elusive, Kenyans continue to demand answers for the lost lives of Musando, Juma, and the River Yala victims. Matiang’i’s call may just reignite the push for accountability.
