“Produce Him Dead or Alive!” – Court Orders IG Kanja, DCI Boss Over Missing Activist Ndiangui Kinyagia
In a dramatic turn of events, the High Court has demanded that the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and DCI boss Mohammed Amin produce missing activist Ndiangui Kinyagia, either dead or alive.
The ruling was made by Justice Chacha Mwita on Tuesday, July 1, after the two top officers failed to show up in court to explain Kinyagia’s disappearance.
“I am not interested in your drama. Produce Ndiangui Kinyagia, whether dead or alive,” Justice Mwita firmly told the officers’ legal representatives.
The Disappearance That Shocked the Nation
Kinyagia, a software developer and activist, vanished on Saturday, June 21, from his home in Kinoo, Kiambu County. Disturbing footage showed about ten men—believed to be DCI officers—alongside three Subaru vehicles at the scene.
Despite growing public outcry, the authorities offered little help.
“There is no way a Kenyan will get out of his abode and vanish from this world without a trace. It is not humanly possible,” Mwita remarked in disbelief.
Conflicting Statements from DCI
On Monday, June 30, DCI boss Mohammed Amin denied Kinyagia was in their custody.
“He is not in our custody, but he is a person of interest over the inflammatory material he posted,” Amin claimed.
However, he later admitted that DCI officers had searched Kinyagia’s home and seized electronic devices—raising eyebrows.
Justice Mwita questioned this inconsistency:
“Since DCI officers were in Ndiangui Kinyagia’s house before he disappeared, we need an explanation from DCI on where he is.”
Public Uproar and Legal Action
The silence from police has sparked widespread protests. Kenyans online and on the streets are demanding answers.
Human rights groups, including Amnesty International and the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), have condemned the incident.
LSK President Faith Odhiambo spoke out strongly:
“We are preparing a court application to compel the police to produce Kinyagia and explain the circumstances of the raid.”

The judge ordered Mohammed Amin to appear in court on Thursday, July 3, to explain the activist’s whereabouts.
