Margaret Kenyatta Inspires Gen Zs to Lead Global Change
Former First Lady Margaret Kenyatta has delivered a rousing call to action to Kenyan youth, urging them to challenge norms, confront injustices, and boldly shape the future.
Speaking on Friday, June 13, at Brookhouse School’s 17th graduation ceremony, Margaret addressed 170 graduates with heartfelt admiration and hope for the rising generation.
“I see a bold generation rising—one ready to question the status quo, reimagine the future, and confront injustices,” she declared.
Applauding Gen Z’s Boldness
Margaret praised the courage of Gen Zs, describing them as visionaries with the power to transform a chaotic world through creativity and courage.

“You have learned to leverage your talents, not just for personal success, but to build a better world by contributing your gifts and brilliant minds to the world,” she said.
She emphasized that the brilliance of youth must drive innovation, adding that they should experiment boldly with new ideas to spark global transformation.
A Call to Action
In her powerful closing, the former First Lady left the graduates with a personal and moving charge.
“Go forth and shine. Wherever life takes you, let your light transform the world,” she urged.
Her rare public appearance was a moment of reflection and inspiration, especially in a period when youth voices are increasingly influencing Kenya’s social and political landscape.

Echoes of Uhuru Kenyatta’s Earlier Message
Margaret’s speech comes months after former President Uhuru Kenyatta encouraged Gen Zs to fight for their rights and not sit back silently amid rising governance challenges.
While speaking in January during the burial of his cousin, veteran rally driver Kibathi Muigai, Uhuru called on young people to defend what’s rightfully theirs.
“Gen Zs are the story of the future. Fight for your rights. Fight to ensure you are getting what is rightfully yours,” Uhuru said.
He added:
“Don’t stand and watch as your wealth is taken from you. If you do not fight for it, don’t cry if it is taken away.”
A Generation Called to Greatness

The back-to-back appeals from both Margaret and Uhuru Kenyatta underscore a powerful shift. Kenya’s youth are no longer just observers—they are drivers of change, disruptors of the old guard, and architects of tomorrow
