KPLC: Areas in Nairobi, Nyeri, Embu scheduled for power cuts Tuesday
Kenya Power has announced scheduled power interruptions in Nairobi, Nyeri, and Embu on Tuesday. The outages, running from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., are aimed at facilitating system maintenance. Affected areas include key institutions, businesses, and residential neighborhoods.
Nairobi
Residents and businesses across Nairobi will feel the impact of the planned power cuts. Several major areas, including Kasarani Stadium, Safaricom Data Centre, and Little Sisters, are among those affected. Others include Regional Centre of Mapping of Resources, Conso/Central Glass Company, and nearby customers.
Additionally, neighborhoods along Magadi Road, Lang’ata South Road, and surrounding regions will experience outages. These include:
- St Thomas Seminary
- Simba Hill
- Phenom Park
- Uhuru Gardens
- Royal Park
- Akiba Lang’ata
Schools such as Karen C Primary and Secondary, Hill Crest, and institutions like Marist University will also be impacted. Popular shopping destinations like Galleria Shopping Mall are on the list, too.
Kibera
Parts of Kibera will also face power interruptions. Areas such as Soweto Academy, Olympic Primary and Secondary, Makina, Karanja Road, and Raila East are included. These cuts could disrupt both daily activities and learning schedules.
Nyeri
In Nyeri, the scheduled outage will affect residential areas, markets, and businesses. Sagana State Lodge, Iruri Market, and Karandi Market will experience power cuts. Other affected locations include:
- Iganjo Village
- Thegu Resort
- Safaricom and Airtel Boosters
With markets and resorts in the mix, the disruption may impact trade and tourism in the region.

Embu
Residents of Embu will also endure power interruptions from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Areas affected include Embu Town, Dallas Shopping Centre, and Moffas Building. Institutions such as Embu College, Embu PGH, and Embu Urban Primary School are also on the list.
Key commercial hubs like Kenster Hardware, Shauri Market, and parts of County Government Offices will be impacted. The outages could hinder business operations and public services.
Why the Power Cuts?
Kenya Power clarified that the interruptions are necessary for system maintenance. These measures aim to improve power reliability in the long term. The company advises customers to plan accordingly and ensure appliances are switched off during the outage.
