Kipchumba Murkomen Denies Sanctioning Abductions, Asks Court to Spare Him: “My Work Is Policy”
Nairobi—Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen has publicly denied authorizing recent abductions, calling for accountability and justice. Through his lawyers, Danstan Omari and Sam Nyaberi, Murkomen emphasized his role in policy, not enforcement.
“I Have No Authority Over Abductions”
Murkomen firmly refuted claims of his involvement in the disappearances. His legal team stated:
“The CS has no legal or constitutional instruments to sanction abductions. The mandate for protection lies with the Inspector General of Police. Anybody found culpable will face the full force of the law.”
This statement came as the High Court scheduled hearings on two petitions filed to address the issue. Justice Bahati Mwamuye summoned Inspector General Douglas Kanja, DCI Director Amin Mohamed, and Murkomen for questioning.
A Parent’s Pain and Sympathy
Murkomen’s lawyers expressed his deep concern for the affected families. They shared his heartfelt condolences, saying:
“As a parent and a father, he understands the pain of losing a child. He condemns any form of extrajudicial action by government agencies.”
Murkomen also urged swift investigations to bring clarity to the ongoing crisis. He stressed that his work is policy-focused and not directly tied to operational security matters.
Murkomen for Accountability
The case, filed by Okiya Omtatah and the Law Society of Kenya, seeks answers about seven youths allegedly abducted by security forces. Judge Mwamuye ordered Murkomen, the Inspector General, and the DCI Director to appear in court on January 8, 2025, to address the matter.

“I hereby order IG Kanja, DCI Amin Mohamed, and CS Murkomen to explain the whereabouts of the six abducted men,” stated Mwamuye.
The judge also demanded the immediate release of those still detained unlawfully.
Legal Representation and Defense
Murkomen’s choice of private legal representation underscored his personal commitment to the case. His lawyers clarified that he had not sought government counsel but hired private advocates to ensure transparency.
