Kipchumba Murkomen Defends President Ruto, Calls Out Tribal Criticism

Sports Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba .Murkomen strongly criticized growing attacks on President William Ruto, calling them unfair and tribal Speaking at the Kericho County Vocational Training Centres’ graduation on December 5, he accused critics of focusing on ethnicity over performance.

Fair Judgement?

“I find it unfair that many people, especially the church, media, and our critics, attack President Ruto for tribal reasons,” he stated.

Unjust Comparisons with Past Leaders
Murkomen expressed frustration over how critics compare Ruto only with former President Daniel Moi. He argued that Ruto’s leadership deserves fair evaluation against all past presidents.

“Why isn’t President Ruto compared to Uhuru Kenyatta, Mwai Kibaki, or Jomo Kenyatta? Why only compare him to Moi?” he questioned.

He emphasized the importance of basing criticism on facts, not tribal bias. “Let’s judge his first two years against previous presidents and focus on truth, not prejudice,” he urged.

Confidence in Ruto’s Leadership
Murkomen appealed for patience, stating that transformative leadership takes time. He highlighted Kibaki’s initial challenges as a case in point.

“In 2003 and 2004, many doubted Kibaki. Yet by 2007, he was celebrated for economic recovery,” Murkomen explained.

He encouraged Kenyans to trust Ruto’s vision, saying, “We believe Ruto will deliver if given time and fair criticism.”

Church Criticism Sparks Debate
In contrast, the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) defended its decision to publicly criticize the government. NCCK Chair Elias Agola claimed the government ignored private appeals to address corruption and economic issues.

“We decided to go public because our private efforts were ignored. We will keep holding the government accountable,” Agola declared.

Murkomen’s defense of Ruto and the church’s firm stance on accountability highlight the nation’s intense political debate.
