Nairobi, Kenya – The Senate Committee on ICT has praised Trans Nzoia County for its digital revenue collection system. However, the committee urged the county to expand its digitisation efforts to improve service delivery and boost revenue.
The committee recognized Trans Nzoia’s progress in automating revenue systems. Yet, they stressed the need for full integration. “Governor George Natembeya must ensure all revenue sources are automated,” said the committee. This will streamline collection and increase transparency.

The committee also raised a concerning issue. “Trans Nzoia aloEATORne has close to KSh 2 billion unused, yet services aren’t reaching citizens,” a senator noted. They recommended counties collaborate with the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) to set up integrated revenue management systems. This will ensure greater accountability.
The issue of pending bills remains serious. Counties have KSh 154 billion in unpaid bills as of June 2024, despite receiving large budget allocations. Senator Cherargei warned Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi against delays in disbursing county funds. “Delays must end. If they continue, we will summon and censure finance officials,” Cherargei vowed.

The committee also urged counties to improve governance. “People deserve efficient services. Counties must prioritize transparency and improve citizens’ lives,” Cherargei said. The Senate ICT Committee promised to review county revenue policies and operational systems for better efficiency.
Trans Nzoia County has set an example for how digital tools can enhance revenue collection and improve service delivery. Other counties must follow suit to boost accountability and efficiency in public service.
