Isaac Mwaura Breaks Silence on Alleged KSh36 Billion Budget: “A Total Lie”
Speaking to the press, Mwaura described the claims as not just false but dangerously misleading.
“There are people out here who are intent on peddling falsehoods and information,” he said.
“How do you go on national radio and claim my office has a budget of KSh36 billion? That is a lie.”
Clarifying the Numbers
The uproar began after a representative from a non-profit organisation appeared on Spice FM earlier this week.
The individual wrongly claimed that Mwaura’s office would receive KSh36 billion in the next financial year.
However, the NGO later corrected the figure, stating it was KSh38 million, not billion.

Still, the damage was already done. The false claim spread quickly, sparking public outrage online.
Mwaura Points Finger at Sensationalism
Despite the NGO’s apology, Mwaura was clearly upset. He didn’t hold back while addressing the issue.
“The budget of my office does not even reach one hundred million,” he said.
“But because you are posturing for donors, and you want to be sensational, you go out and spread misinformation.”
Media Criticism and Call for Responsibility
Mwaura also criticised Standard Group, which owns Spice FM, for not giving him a chance to respond live.
He accused the media house of failing to uphold professional ethics.
“They aired falsehoods and never gave me the right of reply,” he lamented.

He then linked the incident to the upcoming 2025 Finance Bill, warning against deliberate public incitement.
“This time, we are very alert,” Mwaura cautioned.
“We will not allow our country to go down last year’s route.”
Warning to Misinformation Agents
Mwaura further warned those trying to stir public unrest through fake data.
“Anyone found trying to incite Kenyans and misinform them — the government will take action,” he declared.
He labeled such acts as “unpatriotic” and urged Kenyans to engage constructively.

“Use the current public participation forums. Let’s share views legally,” he encouraged.
Context: Arrest Sparks Public Outcry
Mwaura’s remarks come days after software developer Rose Njeri was arrested.
She created a site for Kenyans to submit views on the Finance Bill — a move that sparked public concern about silencing voices.
