“I’m Ready to Go If You Have Better Plans” – President Ruto Speaks After Deadly Protests

President William Ruto has spoken out firmly following the deadly protests that rocked Kenya on Wednesday, June 25.

The demonstrations, which turned violent in several parts of the country, left widespread destruction and deep emotional scars.

Addressing the nation during the World MSME Day celebrations in Nairobi on Friday, Ruto described the protests not as peaceful picketing but as “pure hooliganism disguised as peaceful processions.”

“You Can’t Burn the Country and Call It Protest”

The Head of State appeared deeply agitated by the destruction caused. He stated that though he is open to criticism and suggestions, violence is not the way.

“If you persuade us, I can also go and concentrate on farming and help in food security, if you have a better plan, but do not burn the country,”

“If it is Ruto must go, then tell me how you want me to go. What do you mean by Ruto must go? Look for a better plan and convince the people of Kenya. You cannot replace a plan you don’t like with no plan,”

Businesses in Ruins, Billions Lost

The President lamented the immense losses suffered by entrepreneurs and small-scale traders during the chaos. Many woke up to find their life’s work destroyed.

“The biggest victims of this week’s protests were hard-working traders and entrepreneurs. People who woke up early only to find their businesses reduced to ashes,”

Ruto noted that several buildings had been torched and investments worth billions lost in mere hours.

Warning to Opposition Leaders

Without naming them directly, President Ruto accused certain opposition politicians of fueling the unrest by inciting the youth. He promised stern action.

“The perpetrators of violence, looting, and destruction during the June 25 protests must be identified and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, swiftly and decisively,”

He directed the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, to swing into immediate action.

“I expect the Inspector General of Police and all relevant security agencies to conduct immediate, thorough, and speedy investigations into the violent protests on June 25,”

Call to Use the Ballot, Not Chaos

President Ruto urged those unhappy with his leadership to wait for the 2027 elections. He insisted that Kenya belongs to all and no one has the right to destroy it under the guise of protest.

“You want change? Convince the people. Win at the ballot. But don’t set the country on fire.”
