EBC Flags Fake Press Release on Alleged Dissolution of Parliament
Kenyans were thrown into confusion on Wednesday after a press release claimed the Supreme Court was considering dissolving Parliament. However, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) quickly flagged the notice as fake.
IEBC Responds Firmly
In a statement shared on its official social media pages, IEBC dismissed the claims as dangerous lies.
“The press release circulating online about Parliament’s dissolution is FAKE. Members of the public are urged not to spread it,” the commission stated.
The fake memo alleged that the Chief Justice would authorize President William Ruto to dissolve Parliament. It further claimed IEBC would then conduct fresh elections for all parliamentary seats.
But the commission said no such process was before the courts.

Ruto’s War with MPs
The fake release came just as tensions between President Ruto and lawmakers escalated. For days, Ruto has accused MPs and senators of taking bribes to influence legislation.
During a joint parliamentary group meeting on Monday, Ruto lashed out at committee members.
“They are collecting money in the name of Parliament. Sometimes that money never gets to Parliament. Instead, it ends up in pockets of a few individuals,” he charged.
He revealed shocking allegations of senators pocketing millions.
“Do you, for example, know that a few members of the House received up to Ksh10 million to pass the Anti-Money Laundering Bill? Did you get the money?” Ruto posed.
The president insisted culprits would be prosecuted.
Senators Demand Evidence
They argued that the accusations tarnished the integrity of Parliament.
Graft Team Suspended
In response to the growing scandal, Ruto unveiled the Multi-Agency Team on War Against Graft (MAT) on Tuesday. The task force included representatives from NIS, EACC, ODPP, and DCI.
However, relief for corrupt officials came quickly. On Wednesday, the High Court suspended the team after Nakuru-based surgeon Magare Gikenyi and three others filed a petition

They argued Ruto had overstepped his constitutional powers by creating MAT. They sought to have the body declared unlawful, irregular, and unconstitutional.

Kenyans now wait to see if Ruto will back his words with solid proof.
