Gov’t Disburses Ksh3.51 Billion to Over 1.7 Million Vulnerable Kenyans Under Inua Jamii
The government has disbursed Ksh3.51 billion to over 1.7 million vulnerable Kenyans under the Inua Jamii Cash Transfer Programme for the month of May 2025.
In an official statement released on June 7, Principal Secretary Joseph Motari of the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection confirmed the massive support.
“The Ministry… has released Ksh3,519,312,000 for payment to 1,759,656 beneficiaries enrolled in the Inua Jamii Program,” the statement read.
Targeting the Most in Need
According to Motari, the programme targets the elderly aged 70 and above, orphans, vulnerable children, and persons with severe disabilities.
“It aims to alleviate poverty and promote the well-being of society’s most vulnerable members,” he emphasized.
He stressed that this initiative is not just a financial aid tool. It is the backbone of the country’s social protection strategy.

“This programme is critical to reducing suffering and lifting lives across all corners of the country,” he added.
How to Access the Funds
Beneficiaries can access the funds digitally through the E-citizen platform or by dialling *222# on their phones.
Once the balance is confirmed, they can withdraw from M-PESA agents or transfer to their M-PESA wallets directly.

More Than Just Money
This latest disbursement follows a similar payout of Ksh3.5 billion in April 2025. It reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to shield the poor from rising costs of living.
“We remain committed to supporting vulnerable groups. No one should be left behind,” Motari affirmed.
Across Kenya, beneficiaries welcomed the news with relief and gratitude.
Voices from the Ground
Many elderly recipients and caregivers shared their hope for the future. For some, this cash means food on the table. For others, it means medicine or school fees.

“I had nothing for my grandchildren this week. This money has saved us,” said a grandmother from Kisii.
“God bless whoever made this happen. I can now buy insulin,” shared a diabetic father from Machakos.
