George Natembeya Discloses Last Time He Travelled Outside Kenya Was in 2005: “Sijawahi Toka Tena”
Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has revealed an unusual truth about his personal life. He disclosed that he has not traveled outside Kenya since 2005. Speaking on Sulwe FM, the first-term governor admitted that his last international trip was to the United Kingdom.
“The last time I traveled outside the country was in 2005 when I visited the United Kingdom. So, when I come to Nairobi, it feels like a foreign country to me,” Natembeya said, adding a touch of humor to his statement.
Investing in Education Over Travel
Natembeya has taken an unconventional approach to leadership, emphasizing service over luxury. He recently revealed that he redirected the KSh 8 million allocated for foreign travel in the 2023/2024 financial year to support nursery school children.
“Travelling abroad is overrated. What are you going to do? The money we saved on travel was used to provide milk for nursery school children,” Natembeya explained.
His decision has been widely applauded, showcasing his commitment to prioritizing community welfare over personal benefit.
Presidential Ambitions and Visionary Leadership
Natembeya has also hinted at his future political ambitions. He declared his intention to vie for the presidency after completing his term as governor.
“I want to provide Kenyans with a fresh alternative—practical solutions and a leadership style centered on accountability and proactivity,” he said, outlining his vision for transformative governance.

He dismissed speculation about pursuing a deputy position, citing the limitations such roles often impose on ambitious leaders.
Opposition and Support Amid Impeachment Talks
In recent weeks, rumors of a potential impeachment attempt against Natembeya have surfaced. These rumors stem from his outspoken criticism of President William Ruto’s government. However, the Bukusu Council of Elders has strongly condemned such moves, warning of severe political consequences.
Led by council chairman Peter Masinde, the elders expressed their unwavering support for Natembeya. “The proposed impeachment lacks solid grounds and is politically motivated,” Masinde said during a gathering at Kitale Museum.
Natembeya, for his part, remains unfazed by the threats. “Some Kenya Kwanza leaders are plotting my removal because I am vocal about government shortcomings,” he stated.
A Leader Who Puts People First
Natembeya’s leadership stands out for its focus on the people rather than personal gain. His bold decisions, like redirecting funds for education and resisting political pressure, have earned him admiration and respect.
