Gachagua Not Immune to Arrest, DCI Declares: “He Will Face the Law Like Any Other Kenyan”
In a bold and chilling declaration, Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has made it clear: former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua will not be spared if found guilty. The top sleuth made the statement during a heated press briefing on Monday, June 30, while updating the nation on the ongoing investigations into the June 25 violent protests.
“With regard to Rigathi, I would like to put it very clearly that Rigathi Gachagua does not enjoy any immunity against prosecution. He is subject to the laws of the land,” Amin stated, shutting down any notions of political protection.
The DCI boss was responding to pressing questions from journalists about whether Gachagua could be prosecuted if linked to the deadly chaos. His response? A thunderous yes.

“If, in our investigations, he is found to have been involved in criminal activity, then action will be taken against Rigathi Gachagua,” he added without blinking.
Despite the damning tone, Amin clarified that no summons had been issued against the former Deputy President yet. Still, the investigation is ongoing, and all eyes are now on its outcome.
Violence Was Orchestrated, Not Random
Digging deeper into the protests, Amin dropped another bombshell: the violence was not spontaneous.
“Our investigations have uncovered disturbing incidents. There has been destruction of critical government infrastructure. Several firearms and police equipment were stolen, and some of these weapons have already been used in violent robberies,” he said gravely.
According to the DCI, these were not rogue acts by angry youth. There were masterminds. There were financiers.
“These actions were not spontaneous; they were orchestrated, and we are actively pursuing the mobilisers and financiers of these acts, and they will be brought to justice soon,” Amin assured.
Gachagua’s Counterclaim
On his end, Gachagua had spoken out on Thursday, days after the protests, accusing the state of staging a setup.
“The government blocked protesters along Kiambu Road and Thika Road, leaving them vulnerable as goons looted shops in Nairobi CBD,” Gachagua claimed.
He further alleged that certain businesses were deliberately targeted, suggesting political foul play.
DCI Urges Victims to Speak Out
While the political storm brews, Amin made a heartfelt appeal to affected citizens.
“We urge all victims, especially those whose shops and properties were damaged, to come forward and assist us with information,” he pleaded.

This wave of arrests is just the beginning. If Amin’s words are anything to go by, no name—big or small—will be spared. Not even Gachagua.
