“I Warned You”: Gachagua Slams Ruto, Sakaja After Nairobi Protest Shooting
In a strongly-worded late-night statement, Gachagua reminded Kenyans of his earlier warnings about a plot to unleash terror on protesters.
“I had clearly warned of a plan by the President and the Governor of Nairobi to unleash police brutality and thugs,” he said.
He added that the plan to kill demonstrators “has come to pass.”
Bloody Clashes, Mask Vendor Shot Point-Blank
The outcry follows a shocking shooting of a mask hawker, identified as Eli, who was gunned down by a police officer at close range in broad daylight.

Captured on video, the officer was seen aiming and firing at Eli along Mondlane Street, leaving him bleeding heavily as horrified bystanders watched.
“What is the logic behind shooting an innocent and harmless hawker at close range?” Gachagua asked.
Eli was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment. His condition remains critical.
Armed Gangs Roam Free, Raise Suspicions of State Sponsorship
Throughout the day, unknown youths armed with clubs and metal rods patrolled the CBD, targeting protesters and bystanders.

Motorbike riders ferried more of these gangs, shouting threats and assaulting anyone suspected of joining the protest. Others stormed shops and robbed traders.
To add to the confusion, a video shared online showed the goons cheering Governor Sakaja outside City Hall.
The gang chanted, “Sakaja, tumelinda jiji,” Swahili for “Sakaja, we have defended the city,” raising suspicions of political backing.
Gachagua Demands Arrests and Answers
Gachagua questioned the government’s silence and demanded accountability for the chaos.
“Which of those criminals who meted out violence on Kenyans today have been arrested?” he asked.
“How much more blood, Mr. President, do you need to leave the Gen Zs alone?” he asked.
Officer Who Shot Eli Arrested, But Tension Remains
The officer who shot Eli has since been arrested, following an order from Inspector General Douglas Kanja.

But public trust remains shaken.
With one man shot, several injured, and property looted, Kenyans now await answers. Meanwhile, Gachagua’s warning, once dismissed, now echoes with haunting truth.
