Gachagua Accuses Raila of Secret Plot to Exploit Government Through Sifuna’s Alliance
A political storm erupted in Kajiado County on Saturday, September 27, after former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua accused ODM leader Raila Odinga of orchestrating a covert plan to manipulate the government ahead of the 2027 elections. Speaking at Jesus Exaltation Church, Bethsaida, Gachagua claimed Raila was playing both sides for personal gain.
“Raila Is Very Strategic”—Gachagua Warns of Dual Political Tactics
Gachagua alleged that Raila had created two factions—one to support the government and another to oppose it. He claimed this dual approach was designed to exploit whichever side proved more beneficial.

“Raila is very clever. Don’t be fooled when he says he hasn’t fielded a candidate,” Gachagua said. “He has two groups within the government,” he added.
He further accused Raila of using Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s new Kenya Moja alliance to challenge the government from within.
“One group is to extort money by backing the government. The other makes noise to pressure it,” Gachagua alleged.
“His Cheque Was Late”—Gachagua Claims Raila’s Silence Is Financial
In a more explosive claim, Gachagua suggested Raila’s recent silence on ODM’s 2027 candidate was tied to financial negotiations.
“When he said ODM would not field a candidate, it was because his cheque was late,” Gachagua declared.
He even claimed President Ruto once confided in him that Raila’s political moves were driven by money, not ideology.
Sifuna’s Alliance Sparks ODM Tensions
Senator Sifuna, ODM’s Secretary General, has recently faced backlash within the party. In August, he threatened to quit ODM if it backed Kenya Kwanza in 2027.
Now, he has formed a youthful political outfit with MPs Babu Owino and Gathoni Wamuchomba. Gachagua insists this alliance is part of Raila’s broader scheme.
“That new alliance is Raila’s tool to exploit the regime,” Gachagua claimed.
Sifuna has previously denied being anyone’s puppet. He has yet to respond to Gachagua’s latest accusations.

Raila Responds: “Don’t Commit the Party Prematurely”
“Don’t commit the party to things not discussed,” Raila said. “Who told you ODM doesn’t have a candidate in 2027?” he asked.
As political temperatures rise, Kenyans brace for a dramatic showdown in the months ahead.
