Ministry of Lands Breaks Silence After Protest at Raila’s Home Over Kibiko Land Dispute

Tensions flared in Karen, Nairobi, as furious Kajiado residents staged a dramatic protest outside Raila Odinga’s home. They demanded his intervention in a heated land dispute involving 2,600 acres in Kibiko. The placards they carried screamed desperation—“Korir Must Go!” “Justice for the Maasai Community!” and “Baba Help Us!”

“Claims Are Malicious”—Ministry Denies Land Grab Allegations

Following the protest, the Ministry of Lands swiftly responded. In a strongly worded statement, Head of Communications Jibril Adan dismissed the accusations as baseless.

“The recent allegations are purely malicious and meant to hoodwink the public,” Adan stated. “They are unfounded and dishonest,” he added.

The residents had accused Lands Principal Secretary Nixon Korir and Kajiado West MP George Sunkuyia of aiding the alleged land grab. However, the Ministry insisted no government official was involved in any illegal acquisition.

“This Case Began in 2014”—Ministry Explains Legal History

The Ministry clarified that the dispute dates back over a decade. It involves the Keekonyike Community Trust and other claimants. Several petitions have been filed since 2014, with the matter dragging through the courts.

“The court ordered the title deed surrendered in March 2025,” the Ministry revealed. “The case was closed in July 2025,” they added.

New title deeds are now being processed based on the court’s ruling. The Ministry urged any aggrieved party to seek redress through legal channels.

“Any party still dissatisfied should approach the courts,” the statement emphasized.

“Stop Fueling Tensions”—Ministry Blames County Officials

In a surprising twist, the Ministry also criticized the Kajiado County Government. They accused local leaders of inciting unrest among community members.

“Attempts to malign our officers should be treated as dishonest,” the Ministry warned. “County officials must stop fueling unnecessary tensions,” they added.

The Ministry reiterated its commitment to transparency and fairness in land matters. They called for calm and urged leaders to avoid politicizing sensitive issues.

Community Still Demands Answers

Despite the Ministry’s explanation, many residents remain unconvinced. They continue to demand accountability and clarity.

“We want justice, not statements,” said one protester. “This land belongs to our ancestors,” another added.

As the dust settles, the Kibiko land saga remains a flashpoint of emotion, history, and politics.
