Edwin Sifuna Predicts Ruto’s Political Downfall: “Atwoli Included”
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has stirred political waters with bold claims about President William Ruto’s political future. Speaking in a candid interview, Sifuna named key allies he believes could jeopardize Ruto’s chances of securing a second term. He singled out Tiaty MP William Kamket, Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, and veteran trade unionist Francis Atwoli as contributors to what he termed Ruto’s political decline.
“This Is Not 1980,” Sifuna Tells Kamket
Sifuna criticized recent remarks by Kamket, calling them outdated and authoritarian. He dismissed the MP’s stance, arguing that modern Kenyans cannot be bullied or coerced into submission.

“Kamket should be told it will not happen. This is not 1980. This is not the generation they used to sell fear to,” Sifuna said.
He praised Kenyans for their growing awareness of constitutional rights, emphasizing that leaders cannot impose their will on the people.
Rising Frustration Over Unfulfilled Promises
The senator highlighted the rising anger among citizens, particularly the youth, over unkept promises and skyrocketing living costs. He questioned how Ruto, once immensely popular, lost public trust so quickly.
“How did we get here? After the 2022 elections, William Ruto was one of the most popular politicians. What did he do to lead us to a place where he’s insulted left, right, and center?” Sifuna asked, adding that the administration’s focus on symptoms instead of root causes worsens public discontent.
“Court Jesters” Giving Bad Advice
Sifuna didn’t hold back in criticizing Ruto’s inner circle. He described some of the president’s closest allies as “court jesters” who fail to provide meaningful counsel. Instead, he alleged, they contribute to the president’s challenges by misleading him.
“So, unfortunately for him, he is surrounded by people who have decided to tear him down. If Ruto becomes a one-term president, blame Kamket, Oscar Sudi, and the likes, including my Uncle Atwoli,” Sifuna quipped.
Kenyans Urged to Demand Accountability
Sifuna urged Kenyans to reject intimidation and speak out against governance failures. He stressed that leaders must earn respect through integrity and respect for the public.
“Respect is not something you force. It is earned by how you conduct yourself and uphold Chapter 6 of the Constitution,” he said.
As Ruto’s administration faces growing criticism, Sifuna’s statements underscore public disillusionment and call for accountability. Will these claims spark change or deepen the political divide? Time will tell.
