Court Detains Six Iranians Over Ksh8 Billion Drug Haul as Kenya Vows Crackdown

Shock and outrage gripped the nation after six Iranian nationals were arrested at Kilindini Port in connection with a massive drug bust. The Shanzu Magistrate’s Court has now allowed police to detain the suspects for 30 days as investigations intensify.

“They Will Remain in Custody” — Court Grants DPP’s Request

Chief Magistrate Antony Mwicigi ruled in favor of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), granting investigators more time to build their case.

“The suspects will remain in custody at the Port Police Station pending further directions,” Mwicigi ordered.

The court also directed that the seized substances be sent to the Government Chemist for analysis. Additionally, the suspects’ mobile phones will undergo forensic examination at the DCI headquarters.

“Interpreter’s Credibility Questioned” — Case Adjourned Briefly

The court had earlier adjourned the case after police raised concerns about the interpreter’s reliability. This delay prompted the magistrate to issue further instructions.

“The foreigners must be accorded medical treatment at the State’s expense,” Mwicigi added.

The case will be mentioned again on November 14 to review the suspects’ welfare and progress of investigations.

“This Is Serious” — Prosecution Highlights National Security Threat

The investigating officer emphasized the gravity of the offense. He cited Section 4(a)(ii) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act, 1994.

“We are investigating a transnational drug trafficking network,” the officer stated. “This poses a serious threat to national security.”

The prosecution stressed the need for thorough investigations to ensure accountability and prevent future breaches.

“Vessel Was Stateless” — DCI Reveals Details of Interception

The suspects were intercepted on Saturday, October 26, about 630 kilometers east of Mombasa. A joint team from the DCI, Kenya Navy, Coast Guard, and NACADA carried out the operation.

DCI Director Mohamed Amin shared chilling details.

“The vessel was stateless. It had no flags,” Amin said. “It’s too early to confirm the exact destination, but it was certainly headed somewhere in this region.”

Security agencies had placed the boat on radar after receiving alerts from regional and international partners.

“Ksh8.2 Billion Worth of Meth” — Kenya’s Largest Drug Seizure

During the inspection, authorities seized 769 packages of methamphetamine. The estimated street value stood at a staggering Ksh8.2 billion.

“This is one of the largest drug hauls in Kenya’s history,” a senior officer confirmed.

The bust has sparked renewed calls for tighter maritime surveillance and international cooperation.

“We Will Burn It Publicly” — Murkomen Vows Symbolic Action

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen announced that the government will publicly destroy the drugs.

“We will burn the consignment to send a clear message,” Murkomen declared. “Kenya will not be a playground for drug traffickers.”

As investigations continue, the nation watches closely, demanding justice and stronger safeguards.
