Eyewitnesses said police had warned pedestrians to clear the way as the motorcade approached. However, 79-year-old Edgar Riches did not seem to hear the warning. As he attempted to cross the road, a support vehicle at the rear of the convoy struck him.
BBC confirmed that the accident happened after Ruto’s vehicle had already passed. The support car, part of the convoy, was responsible for the fatal crash.
Riches Was Visiting Family
New details reveal that Riches was in Kenya to visit his sister and nephew. His body was taken to Lee Funeral Home as investigations continued.
Riches, a dedicated Catholic from Poole, England, was well-known for his generosity. Ann Stribley, president of the Poole Conservative Association, described him as a quiet, charitable man.
“Edgar raised money for charities and was a kind-hearted soul. His death is a big loss to our community,” Stribley said.
