The incident began when 30-year-old Ian Nyarianda, reportedly struggling with depression, jumped into the well. Neighbors say Ian had been battling mental health issues for some time. Despite his family’s efforts to support him, his struggles persisted.
“Ian was struggling with mental health issues, but his family was supporting him. So even when he fell into this well, he wasn’t aware,” one neighbor shared, expressing deep sorrow.
A Heroic but Tragic Rescue Attempt
When Ian fell, his uncle, Robert Ngugi, rushed to save him. Without hesitation, he descended into the well in a desperate attempt to bring his nephew to safety. Sadly, both men suffocated due to a lack of oxygen before help could arrive.
“A young man fell into the well, and when his uncle came to help him, he also died,” another neighbor recounted, his voice heavy with emotion.
