Kenyans Go Berserk as Police Seek Help to Probe Accident Caused by Ruto’s Convoy: “Izi ni Gani?”
On Thursday, March 13, police released a statement confirming the accident at Adams Arcade along Ngong’ Road. They revealed that a government vehicle fatally hit a pedestrian, a foreign national.
“Following a road traffic accident that occurred today at Adams Arcade along Ngong’ Road involving a government vehicle which resulted in the death of a pedestrian who is a foreign national. The National Police Service is now handling the matter and investigations have commenced,” the statement read.
Kenyans React: “What Are You Investigating?”
The statement sparked a wave of fury online, with many questioning why police needed help when they already knew the car belonged to Ruto’s convoy.
Social media users flooded the NPS post with sarcastic and frustrated comments:
- “It’s so sad that the presidential motorcade has an ambulance but never bothered to attend to the old mzungu,” wrote Pillows and Duvets.
- “A blanket statement instead of taking action against the president’s motorcade,” Billy Richards Koech noted.
- “What investigations when you already know it’s a government vehicle?” Paul Davies questioned.
- “This should have been a letter to State House,” Daniel Ominde added.
- “Have you recorded a statement from the president’s handlers?” Omuchero asked.
Many felt the police were avoiding responsibility, deflecting blame instead of holding the motorcade accountable.
Eyewitness Account: “They Didn’t Stop”
A witness at the scene described how the accident happened. The foreign national was hit as Ruto’s convoy traveled from Lang’ata to Kibra on the president’s fourth day of his Nairobi tour.
The witness confirmed that the vehicle responsible did not stop after the impact. Onlookers rushed to help, but the victim had already succumbed to his injuries.

Videos circulating online showed the tragic aftermath. The lifeless body lay in a pool of blood, as a crowd gathered in shock. Later, the victim was covered with a Maasai shuka, with his shoes and cap placed neatly beside him.
Growing Public Outrage
Kenyans have expressed deep frustration, accusing the government of negligence. Many demanded accountability, questioning whether the authorities would genuinely investigate.
