Reasons why Mudavadi, Wetangula skipped Ruto-Raila deal signing ceremony emerge

When President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga signed a historic agreement to collaborate on Friday, the absence of two key figures—Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula—did not go unnoticed.

The event, held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), triggered speculation about their position on the deal. However, an investigation by Citizen Digital has established that both leaders were engaged in official duties elsewhere.

Earlier that morning, Mudavadi had attended a Kenya Kwanza Parliamentary Group (PG) meeting at State House, which was chaired by President Ruto. During this meeting, lawmakers from the ruling coalition endorsed the cooperation pact between Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and Raila’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

After the session, Mudavadi proceeded to his office for another engagement at 10 a.m. before traveling to Bomet and Kakamega Counties to represent the President at different functions.

In Bomet, he attended the burial of Mzee David Kiplang’at Arap Kirinyet, the father of Dr. Aurelia Rono, Principal Secretary for Parliamentary Affairs. The funeral took place in Chemaner village. Later in the day, Mudavadi traveled to Lugusi in Kakamega County for a Thanksgiving Service at Friends’ Boys School, where he handed over a school bus in memory of the late Malava MP, Malulu Injendi.

Meanwhile, Speaker Wetangula was in Kimilili, Trans Nzoia County, where he presided over the commissioning of an 8-classroom story building at Daraja Mungu Comprehensive School. He was invited by Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa for the ceremony.

After that, Wetangula attended the requiem mass for the late former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman, Wafula Chebukati.
